The Fundacja ABCXXI (ABC Foundation) was founded in 1998 by Irena Kozminska, now its president. ABC co-operates with the Polish ministry of culture and many partners in the field of media and it is financed by donations. The foundation aims to offer long-term support to children and adults in Poland through educational, organisational and promotional activities. The Polish Book Institute was founded as a government organisation by the Polish Ministry of Culture and begean working in 2004. One of its main objectives is to promote reading activities in Poland, hence it supports libraries in rebuilding their stock, organising public readings, action programmes.
