„Duffy – Books in Homes“ in New Zealand

The „Duffy Books in Homes“ charity was established in 1995 and since its inception, it has provided more than 100 000 children from ca. 550 schools with at least five books a year each. Duffy focuses on those schools that, according to census statistics, are attended by particularly deprived children. The Duffy mission is to inspire children with a love of books and reading, by book ownership, and thus foster their communicative skills. National Schools Poetry Awards and National Schools Writing Festival in New Zealand

The National Schools Poetry Awards are organised by the International Institute of Modern Letters (IIML), Victoria University, Wellington. In the past, students from years 11 to 13 were invited to participate. The competition intends to incite an interest in literature, and to celebrate creative writing competencies.
In 2009, awards were presented in two categories, i.e. poetry and lyrics, with all of the entries being recognised in both categories.
