With perseverance, audacity and resourcefulness, the Tamer Institute for Community Education has, for two decades, stimulated Palestinian children’s and young adults’ love of reading – and their creativity. For promoting reading under difficult circumstances the institute was awarded the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award on 2 June 2009 in the Stockholm Concert Hall.

Initiative ”Arabbooks.org” in Palestine

A number of volunteers have formed a loose connection in order to establish libraries in all of the refugee camps in Palestine and in other areas of Palestine, too, e.g. Dschenin and Nablus. According to the motto: “The right to education is sacred“, the group was initiated in Jordan on July 15, 2009. Its founder, Hanaa Al-Ramli, donated her collection of children’s books for this good cause. The group has used Facebook and the internet to expand its realm of action (Jordan, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, [ ... ]
